The story of Phillips House begins with a first date and a cork Lisa Frankel decided to keep. The man sitting across from her would later become her husband. The evening already felt worth remembering, so when the bottle was finished, Lisa saved the cork. Her future husband was a prosthodontist, and she began spending time in his dental lab, surrounded by casting equipment, lasers and the tools he used to build teeth by hand. He taught her how to draw gold wire, and Lisa used what she learned to make a tiny nail head through the cork and a bail at the top so she could wear it on a chain.

An object that could easily have been thrown away became something Lisa wanted to keep close because of the memory it carried. That instinct would eventually become part of Phillips House: the jewelry we treasure is not valuable only because of what it is made from. Its value grows from the life attached to it, the people it brings to mind and the way it makes us feel when we wear it.

Years later, Lisa founded Phillips House with her daughter, Danielle Frankel. Lisa brought an intuitive sensitivity to meaning, touch and how a piece physically feels. Danielle, a lifelong ballerina, brought an understanding of movement, balance, beauty and discipline. Jewelry also gave Danielle a form of individual expression beyond choreography, shaping the way she thinks about how a piece moves with the body, how it feels and how it becomes part of someone’s personal style. Together, they began designing jewelry to become part of someone’s life, not something to be saved for someday.

That belief is still at the heart of Phillips House. The days that become important do not always announce themselves. A dinner becomes the first date with the person you marry. An ordinary Tuesday becomes a memory. A piece of jewelry becomes inseparable from a certain chapter of your life, gathering meaning simply because you were wearing it while life was happening.
